About BOKU
The University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU), founded in 1872, is an education and research center for renewable resources and sustainable development in Vienna, Austria. BOKU combines expertise in the fields of natural sciences, engineering and biotechnology as well as social and economic sciences. Institute of Geomatics at BOKU represents the areas of:
- Remote sensing, GIS, image data processing and photogrammetry
- Geoinformatics & GIS, and
- Land and cadastral surveying in teaching and research.
Research and development are focused on the following areas:
- Development of algorithms for the automated sensor data analysis (including artificial intelligence)
- Evaluation of aerial photographs and satellite images for application in agriculture, forestry, landscape and spatial planning
- Utilizing GIS as a tool for obtaining planning data, and
- Employing GPS surveying methods in forestry and landscape planning.
BOKU'S ROLE AT THE PROJECT
BOKU will lead Work Package 4 (WP4), which aims to support the implementation of the STELLA PSS in a collaborative environment involving scientists, agronomists, farmers, phytosanitary operators, foresters, and policymakers across six real-life UCPs. The goal is to establish a framework for demonstrating the STELLA PSS and to coordinate and support demonstrations of the STELLA PSS in the UCPs, while gathering qualitative and quantitative feedback data for evaluation and validation.
