About GEOPONIKO PANEPISTIMION ATHINON

The Agricultural University of Athens (AUA), established in 1920, stands as the third oldest university in Greece. Committed to excellence in both Education and Research in Agricultural Science, AUA’s mission aligns with the evolving landscape of modern education and science, while remaining deeply rooted in serving the needs of the Greek economy and society. With diverse departments encompassing Plant Sciences, Animal Biosciences, Environment and Agricultural Engineering, Food and Nutritional Sciences, Applied Biology and Biotechnology, and Applied Economics and Social Sciences, employ a multidisciplinary approach to address agri-nutrition challenges. AUA’s educational programs integrate theory and practice, fostering sustainable development and innovation in Greek agriculture at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Additionally, AUA serves as a hub for agricultural research, driving advancements that contribute to the sustainable development and innovation of Greek agriculture.

GEOPONIKO PANEPISTIMION ATHINON'S ROLE AT THE PROJECT

AUA’s role in the project is multifaceted, with a primary focus on leading two crucial work packages: WP1 – Project Management and WP3 – STELLA Platform. In WP1, AUA oversees the coordination of project activities, ensuring efficient financial and administrative management, while also maintaining a high standard of output quality through regular monitoring and optimization of partner cooperation. Simultaneously, within WP3, AUA spearheads the development of the STELLA Platform, undertaking tasks such as designing and implementing a hosting environment for AI models and analytical tools, ensuring data interoperability, developing a user-friendly Graphical User Interface (GUI), ensuring compliance with data ownership legislation, and evaluating the platform across various criteria to promote its successful exploitation. Additionally, AUA’s involvement extends to other work packages, including WP2 (tasks T2.1, T2.2), where it contributes on establishing protocols for the effective collection of data and extracting and preprocessing all the proximal, IoT, trap (insect and spore) and remote sensing data. In WP4, AUA will oversee, over 3 years, the 2 real-life Use Case Pilots (UCPs) located in Greece covering diverse land uses (olive orchards, plane forest trees) and targeting 3 different quarantine and non-quarantine regulated pests (Verticillium dahliae, Pseudomonas savastanoi pv. savastanoi, Ceratocystis platani). Furthermore, AUA contributes in WP5 (T5.2) on developing policy recommendations and leads efforts in conducting cost-benefit analyses (T5.3) to assess the feasibility and sustainability of proposed technologies and the STELLA PSS platform across the project’s UCPs. Finally, AUA will contribute to the overall execution of dissemination, communication, and exploitation plans within WP6 and lead the T6.3 – Capacity building in the project by developing an e-learning platform to help stakeholders acquire the essential knowledge to utilise the STELLA PSS platform. Through these endeavours, AUA plays a pivotal role in driving the project’s success by effectively managing resources and advancing technological solutions.
